Question 1

Do I legally need a copyright notice?

Accepted Answer

In most countries (including the US and UK), copyright protection is automatic from the moment you create an original work — you don't need to register or display a notice. However, a copyright notice strengthens your position in disputes, signals to others that the work is protected, and is required for some types of legal remedies in certain jurisdictions.

Question 2

What should a copyright notice include?

Accepted Answer

A complete copyright notice has three parts: the copyright symbol © (or the word 'Copyright'), the year of first creation or publication, and the name of the rights holder. Example: © 2026 Jane Smith. All Rights Reserved.

Question 3

Accepted Answer

'All Rights Reserved' is a traditional phrase declaring that the copyright holder retains all rights to the work and grants no implicit permissions to others. It's not legally required in most countries but is widely used as a clear statement of intent.

Question 4

How do I add a copyright notice to an image?

Accepted Answer

You can embed it in the file's EXIF/IPTC metadata (which is what Bingco does automatically), add it as a watermark to the image itself, or include it in the filename or accompanying documentation. EXIF metadata is invisible to viewers but readable by software.

Question 5

What is a Creative Commons licence?

Accepted Answer

Creative Commons licences let you share your work while specifying what others can and can't do with it — for example, allowing non-commercial use but requiring attribution. They're widely used by photographers, musicians and writers who want their work to spread freely under defined conditions.
